You probably have some thoughts about what local means. You may know what it means, but don't know how it feels, and you may be wondering how to feel local. You may even have a reference point on which you base these various thoughts - potentially a referene from a time in your life you remember fondly.
If you reach into these fond memories, think about the essence of what makes these moments special. Think about the people you interacted with, the places you interacted with, and the food you enjoyed.
In most of these memories, you may find a theme come to mind - a theme of communities in some form, in an environment that brings out the stoke. In some cases it may involve a community of people growing with you. In other cases it may involve place-based inspiration that urges you to think outside of yourself. Think of how stoked you were to see these people every day, or how you would look forward to interacting with the area around you.
There is no one answer or one memory to any of these prompts, and yet they often amount to a sense of wonder about our place-based surroundings. There is a familiarity to being Locally Stoked – having the comfortable thrill to be a part of something big going on where you are.
To be Locally Stoked is to get out there and engage with the places around you, and we want to talk about why that can feel so hard right now and what we can do about it. Through community essays and spotlights of local groups getting stoked in their neighborhoods, Locally Stoked provides us a platform to ponder and get inspired.
